CORNEA

Your cornea is the clear front part of your eye covering your iris. It must be clear and smooth to give you the best possible vision. If your cornea is damaged, unable to heal, swollen, or you have other corneal problems, a cornea transplant may be the best option. There are different types of cornea transplants: a full transplant (PK,) a partial transplant (DALK,) and endothelial transplants (DMEK or DSAEK) Your surgeon will evaluate your condition and let you know which is best option is best for you. Pteryhiums (growths on cornea) may also require surgery to remove them if they are causing visual disturbances.
Cornea issues that may require surgery:
-
Infections or injury to your cornea
-
Keratoconus
-
Fuch's Dystrophy
-
Scarring or swelling of the cornea
-
Growths on the cornea that need to be removed
A cornea transplant may improve vision, pain, and help improve the appearance of the eye.
